Working in all four body positions, we explore a wide variety of techniques using feet, palms, forearms, elbows, thumbs and fingers. Participants explore new and interesting techniques to release stored tension through stretches, compressions, fascia release, and opening techniques.
We review and refine traditional Thai techniques for the shoulders, upper back, and neck, including subtle suspensions and traction techniques to facilitate the release of tension in the neck. We practice important acupressure points on the head and face, many of which are not usually taught in general Thai courses.
After working extensively on the lower torso, if energy in the upper body is not released properly, a client may feel unbalanced, incomplete, and even in pain. This workshop explores a wide variety of techniques to address the shoulders, shoulder blades, clavicle, neck, head and face. This workshop is open to all those who have some experience in Thai massage, table massage, and movement therapy. Though we will be working on floor mats, in Thai style, some of the techniques may also be adapted to a massage table.
Special attention is given to the face and neck, and herbal balms and Thai herbal waters are used for some techniques. The work is slow and spiritual, and each participant has time to give to and receive from various partners each day. This is always an enjoyable workshop because the mood is meditative, and everyone loves to receive work on their shoulders, neck, head and face. Join us !

Basic Thai massage techniques can be enjoyed by everyone, and this workshop is specially designed for practitioners and teachers of Western massage therapy, yoga, body movement, and physical therapy. This workshop discusses the origin and evolution of traditional Thai massage, and it focuses on several important energy lines in the Thai healing system. We learn and practice acupressure techniques, proper breathing patterns & body mechanics, assisted Thai yoga postures, and a variety of stretching techniques. Special attention is given to traditional Thai techniques that can be adapted to other disciplines, including table massage and partner yoga, and there is plenty of time each day to give and receive.
Traditional Thai massage, which began to evolve over a thousand years ago, combines assisted yoga postures, stretches, compressions, acupressure techniques, and stimulation of energy lines in the body. Through assisted yoga, the body is stretched in ways that are difficult to attain through normal exercise and personal yoga practice. Correct breathing patterns and body mechanics are essential, and a session is most effective when both parties are fully relaxed and in a meditative state. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, grounding, and physical and mental stability.
